Traders applaud the anti-corruption drive and ask for business-minded leadership
FUTA backs investigations that recover stolen public money — and wants people who have actually run businesses appointed to the economic ministries.
FUTA has welcomed the government’s intensified anti-corruption campaign. At a Kampala press conference, President John Kabanda said traders want investigations applied evenly, including in institutions that sit on the daily path of business — among them the police and URA.
The federation called for tougher penalties, recovery of assets from officials found guilty, and the auction of illegally acquired property. Selective enforcement, Kabanda warned, would undermine public trust.
He also argued that some public officials are too far from the struggles of a shopkeeper. FUTA wants people with practical business experience appointed to key economic portfolios, particularly the Ministry of Trade, so that policy is written by people who understand a stall, an arcade lease, and a tax file.
