About FUTA
One umbrella for every trader in Uganda.
The Federation of Uganda Traders Associations was formed so that policy is no longer made with Kampala alone in the room. Micro shops, arcade stalls, wholesalers and large enterprises now speak together.
Origin
Born from the EFRIS stand-off
When Uganda Revenue Authority rolled out the Electronic Fiscal Receipting and Invoicing Solution without consulting the people who would have to use it, traders stopped work. Media — especially Nation Media Group — put their case on air. That coverage opened a meeting with President Yoweri Museveni.
The President told URA to consult first. He also asked traders from across the country to form one national body, instead of leaving the conversation to a Kampala-only association. FUTA is that body.
John Kabanda and Vice Chairman Peter Kasozi built the federation from that instruction: countrywide mobilisation, a secretariat in Kampala, and a single channel into government.

In the rooms that hold the files
FUTA was asked to be one national voice. That voice is used in government offices — under the Uganda flag — as well as in press briefings. We sit with State House, the Prime Minister, Finance, KCCA and URA so a trader’s file is actually opened.
Mission
Unite traders, defend their livelihoods, and open a professional channel into the offices that write tax, city and trade policy.
Vision
A Uganda where a stall in Gulu and a shop in downtown Kampala are represented with the same seriousness.
